Photometry is the science of the measurement of light. There are additional photometric parameters that can be used to model the light that will be emitted from a light source. Lighting fixture families have light sources that can be used to specify the shape and distribution of the light. In Revit, you can model light with the light source. When designing lighting systems, modeling light to real-world accuracy is extremely important for renderings and animations. But what about light? How does someone model light?! It seems like an absurd question, but necessarily valid at the same time. To create a chair, you need multiple extrusions and maybe a sweep or a revolve. For example, to create a door, you simply need an extrusion. If you are familiar with 3D modeling, then you probably don’t have much trouble picturing how you would model various portions of a building. This allows you to model the conditions and make decisions on lighting before any fixtures are purchased and installed. These parameters affect how the lights will render in a view or behave in another visualization program. When designing lighting for your building, there are multiple parameters that need to be specified to model the lighting conditions, such as the light distribution, intensity, and color.
